704 Made Headlines

704 Made Headlines

704 Made Headlines

In case you missed it, the Stanly News and Press ran a great article about That Youth Thing and its plans for 704. Awesome things are happening, and this article was an unexpected way of letting the word out.

Thanks to so many who have called, emailed, and Facebooked us with encouraging words of support. God is doing this!!!

First random sighting!

March 12, 2009

Today I spotted the very first cling on a random car, of which the owner I did not know! Up until now I’ve known everyone who has a cling on their vehicle (and those are usually in church parking lots). It was cool to spot one out of the blue. Thanks mystery mini van owner! Keep ip the good work.

The model gets even better

One of the things we loved about our tour of the Autumn Ramp Park out at The Bridge in Joplin, MO, was the fact that every year they change at least 25% of their ramps in order to give the skaters and bikers a new challenge.

They are currently in the rebuilding process and this video shows the beginning stages. Soon we’ll be showing videos like this of the construction at the ramp park coming to 704.

Like logos? You won’t believe what’s coming…

January 15, 2009

Just watched the master sketch artist adding some of the finishing touches to the logo for the ramp park we’ll have in 704 and it is…WOW! Be on the lookout for the unveiling in the next few weeks! You will love, love, love it!

Hanging with The Awakening

June 10, 2008

I’ll post more over on my blog about the great time I had out at Memorial Baptist Church in Norwood on Sunday night, but here I wanted to say “thanks” to all the students who wrote down their FAVE FIVE things they’d love to see in 704. That input is the best we can get. There’s no sense building a youth center if it doesn’t have some of the stuff youth actually want! Some of the suggestions, in no particular order, were:

  • Food court
  • Laser tag
  • Basketball courts
  • Recording studio
  • Concert hall
  • Go carts
  • Starbucks
  • Very large big mammoth screen TV
  • Coffee shop
  • Climbing wall
  • Theater, and my personal favorite
  • Elephant rides

Thanks, again, all you great Awakening-ers, for some awesome ideas.

It’s on now

The Official 704 Timeline

Okay. So the four of us (Phil, Jenn, Wendy, and myself) had a sticky note party and things are happening now. Phil did a good job laying out the progress over on his blog. You may want to head over there so I don’t have to retype everything he did.

Now, Phil, Jenn, Wendy, and I live in the land of sticky notes and I love it!! (Want to see the very first sticky note? Click here.) We know what to do, when it needs to get done, and we get to do fun stuff like use the strikethrough text effect on items when we’ve done them. I think we started May with 17 things to do and currently 6 are done and 4 are in progress.

Keep checking back. Oh, and Jessica R., if you’re reading this (and you better be because you said you would), please comment with the following text: “A goose sat on a pile of leaves and laid an egg even though geese can’t lay eggs.” Simply copy and paste. Rinse and repeat as needed. Thank you.

Video of The Bridge

May 7, 2008

We learned so much during our visit to The Bridge. So much, in fact, that it’s taking us longer than we thought to really process all the information and post it here. That’s why it seems like we keep trickling the videos and pictures in. Sorry about that.

Anyway, major thanks to Dan and the staff out in Joplin, MO, for showing us The Bridge. It is an amazing place, and the video above probably doesn’t do it justice. Someday, though, when 704 is open, you’ll be able to stand in something very similar to what you see in the footage.

Imagine this

April 23, 2008

The Autumn Ramp Park at The Bridge in Joplin, MO, was amazing. This is a small video of what it looked like. Can you imagine something like this in Stanly County? We can!

704 gets some pub!

March 13, 2008

Albemarle Wesleyan’s church sign!I got an email from ChurchChick and when I opened it I found a couple pictures showing 704 on the marquee over at Albemarle Wesleyan Church. How cool is that?!! Just more proof that this county is begging for the kind of ministry that will take place at 704. Thanks, ChurchChick. Albemarle Wesleyan would definitely be in our calling circle if we had one.

If any others have evidence of other 704 sightings, be sure to send them to us in an email.
